***Match: Liverpool vs Villarreal

Competition: Champions League, league phase

Venue: Anfield

Kick-off: 8pm BST, Tuesday, October 20***

Liverpool return to Anfield on Tuesday night looking to make it three wins from three in the Champions League league phase as they welcome Villarreal.

Andoni Iraola’s side have started their European campaign with victories over Atlético Madrid and LASK, although Saturday’s 2-1 comeback win against Brentford came at a cost, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong both forced off with injuries.

Those absences present selection questions for Iraola, while Liverpool will be looking to carry the attacking threat they showed in Austria into another European night at Anfield. Their 6-3 victory over LASK was full of goals and attacking promise, but also offered reminders of the defensive vulnerabilities they will need to address against stronger opposition.

Villarreal arrive looking to disrupt Liverpool’s rhythm and make life difficult for the hosts. With a third consecutive European victory on offer, Liverpool have the chance to strengthen their position in the league phase — but they will need to balance their attacking ambition with greater control.

We’ll bring you the confirmed line-ups, pre-match reaction and all the key moments from Anfield, with analysis and updates throughout the evening.
