*Liverpool vs Brighton | Premier League | Anfield | Kick-off: 2pm BST*

Liverpool return to Anfield looking to build on a thrilling Champions League victory over Villarreal, but Andoni Iraola’s side face a significant test against a Brighton team enjoying an impressive start to the season.

The Reds came from two goals down to beat Villarreal 4-3 on Tuesday, with Alexis Mac Allister scoring twice and Florian Wirtz adding a fourth after an outstanding second-half revival. Rio Ngumoha was a standout performer, providing the cross for Mac Allister’s decisive goal before receiving a deafening ovation when substituted.

That comeback showcased Liverpool’s attacking potential, but the first-half performance also exposed defensive vulnerabilities. Iraola will want a more complete display today, particularly against a Brighton side who have scored freely and arrive in third place in the Premier League table.

Liverpool are fifth on 12 points, with Brighton four points ahead on 16. The hosts are also still searching for their first league win at Anfield under Iraola, making this an important afternoon on more than one front.

Dominik Szoboszlai is unavailable, while Victor Muñoz faces a fitness test. Bradley Barcola is fit to return, and Ryan Gravenberch is available again after suspension. Liverpool will need their attacking quality, but control and defensive concentration could prove just as important against Fabian Hürzeler’s visitors.

Team news, key moments, tactical observations and reaction will follow throughout the afternoon.
