AFC Bournemouth 0-1 Liverpool: Alexander Isak strikes as Reds survive late pressure for vital win

Liverpool return to Premier League action this afternoon with a trip to Bournemouth as Andoni Iraola prepares for an emotional return to his former club.

The Reds head to the south coast having secured their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo put Liverpool in control before Conor Gallagher pulled one back for Spurs, only for Dominik Szoboszlai to seal the victory with a spectacular stoppage-time volley.

Attention now returns to the Premier League, where Liverpool will be determined to produce a response after being held to a frustrating goalless draw by Fulham last weekend.

Iraola’s side struggled to create clear-cut opportunities during a disappointing afternoon at Anfield and were indebted to Jeremy Jacquet and Alisson for keeping Fulham out.

The Liverpool head coach rotated heavily against Tottenham, meaning a number of senior players should return to the starting XI this afternoon.

There will also be plenty of attention on Iraola himself as he returns to Bournemouth, the club he previously managed for three years before taking charge at Anfield.

Liverpool will be looking to spoil the reunion and secure another important three points as they continue adapting to life under the Spaniard.

Kick-off is scheduled for 2pm, with confirmed team news expected at 12:45pm.
